Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 27/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system centred to the west of Bass Strait is moving east, while another high over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge towards the northern New South Wales coast. This second high will be one of the dominant features in the region during the next few days as it drifts slowly towards New Zealand. Between these systems a broad trough stretches from the state's northwest towards the southern coast. This trough is likely to be the main trigger for shower activity over the next day or two, increasing across the southeast during Wednesday with the assistance of a transient upper-level feature. Another trough lingering just off the northern coast should see showers persisting in the far northeast.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated showers in the east. Fine and partly cloudy in the west. Northeast to southeast winds.Wednesday 28 MarchFine in the far west and the northern inland. Isolated showers remainder, more widespread on the northern coast and about the southern ranges and slopes. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms over the southeastern inland. Northeast to southeast winds.Thursday 29 MarchFine in the west. Isolated showers in the east, more widespread and with isolated thunderstorms over central parts of the coast and adjacent ranges. Southeast to northeast winds.Friday 30 MarchIsolated showers on and east of the ranges tending scattered in the northeast, more likely near the coast. Fine remainder. Southeast to northeast winds.Saturday 31 MarchPossible afternoon showers along the coastal fringe of the Northern Rivers and Mid North Coast. Fine and sunny throughout the remainder. Southeast to northeast winds, ahead of a northwesterly change in the southwest.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EDT Wednesday.Product IDN10031
