Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 23/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weakening trough lies off the east coast of Queensland, and will move
further away from the state during the next couple of days. A high south of the
continent extends a strengthening ridge into western Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Isolated showers about eastern Queensland, with isolated thunderstorms about
the far north and parts of the central coast. Fine elsewhere. Mostly light to
moderate SE to SW winds.
Forecast for Saturday
Isolated showers near the coast, and developing about parts of the adjacent
inland and the tropical interior. Isolated thunderstorms about the northern
tropics. Fine elsewhere. Mostly light to moderate SE to SW winds with cool
temperatures inland. Fresh winds about the east coast.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will move into southeast Australia and strengthen the ridge along
the east Queensland coast. Showers will be maintained about the east coast and
eastern interior, and winds will likely become strong during the day between
about Cardwell and Burnett Heads. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are
expected over Cape York Peninsula, with scattered showers developing about the
North Tropical Coast. Fine over the west and southern interior. Temperatures
remaining well below average over the interior.
Forecast for Monday
The firm ridge will persist along the east Queensland coast with fresh to
strong SE winds and showers. These showers are expected to spread across into
the central and southern interior during the day as an upper trough moves across
southern Queensland. Showers and thunderstorms persisting over the far northern
tropics, with showers becoming scattered and possibly tending to rain about the
North Tropical Coast. Temperatures remaining well below average over the
interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The firm ridge will persist along the east Queensland coast as the high moves
into the eastern Tasman Sea. Fresh to strong SE winds and showers along the east
coast, with scattered showers tending to rain about the North Tropical Coast.
Showers and thunderstorms persisting over the far northern tropics. Isolated
showers about eastern and northern Queensland, fine elsewhere. Temperatures
remaining well below average over the interior.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The high is expected to slowly drift to the east of New Zealand and a new
high pushes into the Great Australian Bight. Fresh to strong SE winds and
showers are expected to continue along most of the east Queensland coast and the
eastern interior. Remaining fine over western Queensland. Showers and
thunderstorms persisting over the far northern tropics. Temperatures remaining
well below average over the interior.

Saturday.
