Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 23/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weakening trough lies just off the Wide Bay and Sunshine Coasts, and is
expected to move offshore during today.  A high south of the continent extends a
ridge into western Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Patchy areas of rain breaking to showers over the southeast during the
morning.  Isolated showers over the remaining eastern and central districts, the
chance of some isolated thunderstorms over the Central Highlands, the Central
Coast, Capricornia and Wide Bay and Burnett, and scattered storms over Cape York
Peninsula. Fine over the west. Day time temperatures below average over the
interior. Light to moderate SE to SW winds over most of the state, SW to NW over
the northern tropics.
Forecast for Saturday
The high over the Great Australian Bight will continue to feed drier and more
stable air into most of Queensland, leading to fine conditions over a lot of the
state except for some showers about the east coast and the nearby inland areas,
and into the northern Goldfields. Isolated showers and storms over Cape York
Peninsula. Temperatures remaining well below average over the interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The high is expected to move into southeast Australia and strengthen the
ridge along the east Queensland coast, maintaining showers about the east coast
and eastern interior. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected over Cape
York Peninsula. Fine over the west and southern interior. Temperatures remaining
well below average over the interior.
Forecast for Monday
The firm ridge will persist along the east Queensland coast with fresh to
strong SE winds and showers. These showers are expected to spread across into
the central and southern interior during the day as an upper trough moves across
southern Queensland. Showers and thunderstorms persisting over the far northern
tropics. Temperatures remaining well below average over the interior.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The high is expected to slowly drift east over the Tasman Sea and maintain
fresh to strong SE winds and showers along most of the east Queensland coast and
the eastern interior. Remaining fine over western Queensland. Showers and
thunderstorms persisting over the far northern tropics. Temperatures remaining
well below average over the interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Friday.
