MELBOURNE - Mar 21/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea extends a ridge to the north coast. A low pressure trough and associated gusty southerly moving through western and southern NSW, will extend through central parts early Thursday before weakening and becoming slow-moving. Some cloud and patchy light rain extends over the far northern inland of NSW from a low pressure system in Queensland. On Thursday and Friday the rain will extend further over northeastern border parts of the state as the low moves over southeastern Queensland. A cold front is expected to cross southern NSW Friday with colder, drier, gusty west to southwest winds to follow. A high pressure ridge will develop over the state over the weekend leading to cooler nights and mild, mostly sunny days. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayFine in the southwest and central coasts and ranges. Patchy light rain over the inland near the Queensland border. Isolated showers for the remainder, more likely on the north coast. Northwest to northeast winds ahead of a gusty south to southwest change in the south and west.Thursday 22 MarchRain areas in the northeast, with locally heavy falls possible near the Queensland border later. Isolated showers about most remaining eastern districts and over the central north. Fine over the western inland. Southeast to northeast winds, fresh about the southern and central coasts early in the day.Friday 23 MarchRain areas in the northeast easing during the day. Isolated showers developing about the western slopes of the far southern ranges. Some light snow about the peaks. Fine remainder. Southeast to northeast winds in the far northeast, otherwise northwest winds turning gusty, cooler, drier west to southwesterly.Saturday 24 MarchFine and mostly sunny apart from isolated showers about the western slopes of far southern ranges and on the far north coast. Early frost patches on the southern ranges. Southwest to southerly winds, gradually moderating.Sunday 25 MarchFine and sunny apart from isolated showers along the northern coast.
