MELBOURNE - Mar 20/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front crossing waters south of the Bight will reach far southwestern Victoria tonight before crossing the remainder of Victoria on Wednesday. Another cold front will approach southwest Victoria later on Thursday before sweeping across southern Victoria on Friday morning. On Saturday a high pressure system will move over the Bight and extend a ridge across to northern Victoria. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayFine apart from rain developing in the far southwest late tonight. Fresh to strong northerly winds, shifting cooler southwesterly in the far southwest at night.Wednesday 21 MarchAreas of rain extending throughout during the day although only patchy rain north of the Divide and over East Gippsland. Rain contracting to the far east later with isolated showers to follow in the south. Mild to warm in the east at first with fresh northerly wind. Cooler west to southwesterly winds in the west, extending throughout during the day.Fire Danger - High to Very High in the west, Low to Moderate elsewhere.Thursday 22 MarchIsolated showers in the southeast clearing during the morning. Isolated showers near the southwest coast, extending further inland during the evening. Fine elsewhere. A cool to mild day, mostly sunny in the north and partly cloudy in the south. Light to moderate west to southwesterly winds, tending northwesterly in the southwest and freshening laterFriday 23 MarchScattered showers, mainly in the southern and mountain districts. Alpine snow. Local hail and thunder developing near the coast. A cool to cold day with a strong and gusty southwesterly wind extending throughout.Saturday 24 MarchIsolated showers in southern and mountain areas contracting towards the coast during the afternoon.
