Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 20/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea extends a ridge to the central part of the NSW coast and an east to southeast airflow over the northern coast. The high will move slowly east tonight and the ridge will extend to the north coast. A low pressure trough and associated southerly change will move through western and southern NSW tomorrow, then through central parts early Thursday before weakening and becoming slow-moving. Later Thursday and Friday a rain band is expected to affect northeastern parts of the state associated with a weakening tropical low over southeast Queensland, and a cold front is expected to cross southern NSW Friday with colder, drier, gusty west to southwest winds to follow. A high pressure ridge will develop over the state over the weekend leading to cooler nights and mild, mostly sunny days.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayScattered showers along the northern coast and adjacent ranges easing. Possible isolated showers about central parts of the coast. Mostly clear elsewhere. Moderating southeast winds on the north coast. East to northeast winds elsewhere, freshening on the far south coastWednesday 21 MarchIsolated showers about the northeast and developing over far southern districts and possibly about the central north during the day. Partly cloudy remainder. Early fog patches in the east. Northwest to northeast winds turning south to southwesterly in the west and south, strong and gusty along the south coast later.Thursday 22 MarchIsolated showers in the northeast tending to rain areas, with possible local heavy falls near the Queensland border later. Possible isolated showers about most remaining eastern districts and over the central north. Southeast to northeast winds, fresh about the southern and central coasts early.Friday 23 MarchRain areas in the northeast, with possible heavy falls near the Queensland border, easing during the day. Isolated showers developing in the southeast, particularly about the western slopes of the far southern ranges with light snow about the peaks. Fine remainder. Southeast to northeast winds in the far northeast, otherwise northwest winds turning gusty, cooler, drier west to southwesterly.Saturday 24 MarchFine and mostly sunny apart from possible isolated showers about the western slopes of far southern ranges and on the far north coast. Early frost patches on the southern ranges. Southwest to southerly winds, gradually moderating.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EDT Wednesday.Product IDN10031
