Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 19/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the southwest Tasman Sea directs a southeast airflow over the central and northern NSW coast. The high will move slowly east tomorrow and extend a ridge to the central part of the coast. A relatively weak low pressure trough will move through western and southern NSW on Wednesday, then reach the northeast on Thursday, weaken further and become slow-moving. On Friday a rain band may affect far northeastern parts of the state associated with a weakening tropical system over southeast Queensland, and an active cold front is expected to cross southern NSW with colder, drier southwest winds to follow.
Forecast for the rest of MondayIsolated showers over the coast and adjacent ranges, scattered north of Newcastle. Mostly clear west of Divide. Southeast to northeasterly winds, fresh on the north coast.Tuesday 20 MarchMostly sunny west of Divide and partly cloudy on the far south coast and adjacent ranges. Isolated showers elsewhere tending scattered near the north coast. Isolated early fog patches in the east. Moderating southeast winds on the north coast. Winds tending east to northeast elsewhere and freshening on the far south coastWednesday 21 MarchIsolated showers developing in the southeast and possibly about the northeast. Partly cloudy remainder. Early fog patches in the east. Northwest to northeast winds turning south to southwesterly in the west and south, strong and gusty along the coast.Thursday 22 MarchPossible isolated showers in the east, more likely in the far northeast. Southeast to northeast winds.Friday 23 MarchScattered showers in the northeast, likely tending to rain areas near the Queensland border. Showers developing in the southeast, particularly about the western slopes of the southern ranges with snow about the peaks. Fine remainder. Southeast to northeast winds in the far northeast, otherwise northwest winds turning gusty, cooler, drier west to southwesterly.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EDT Tuesday.Product IDN10031
