MELBOURNE - Mar 15/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system south of Kangaroo Island is moving steadily southwards. A high southwest of Western Australia is moving eastwards and will be centred south of the Bight on Friday, near Tasmania on Sunday and over the Tasman Sea on Monday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers over coastal areas. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Pastoral and Flinders districts. Moderate to fresh west to northwesterly winds over central and eastern parts, with moderate south to southwesterly winds over the remainder.Friday 16 MarchIsolated showers over the agricultural area, contracting southeastwards during the day. Isolated showers over the Flinders and the pastoral districts tending patchy rain at times. Possible thunderstorms northeast of Leigh Creek. Mild to warm with moderate to fresh southwest to southeast winds.Saturday 17 MarchIsolated morning showers about the Lower South East coast. Patchy rain and possible thunderstorms in the northeast contracting to the far northeast during the day. Patchy rain developing in the far northwest during the evening. Fine elsewhere apart from isolated early fog patches in the southeast. Mild to warm with moderate to fresh southwest to southeast winds.Sunday 18 MarchPatchy rain over the far northwest will clear during the morning. Possible patchy rain developing about the western border. It will be fine and warm to hot elsewhere, becoming hot to very hot in the west with freshening northerly winds.Monday 19 MarchPatchy rain in the far west otherwise fine. Hot to very hot with moderate to fresh east to northeasterly winds. Cumulative rainfall totals from Thursday afternoon until midnight Monday are expected to be generally less than 2 mm grading to 2 to 5 mm over the Pastoral and Flinders districts with possible isolated local falls of 5 to 15 mm in rain and thunderstorms.Tuesday until ThursdayPatchy rain extending over most parts of the state during the period and becoming confined to the Northeast Pastoral by Thursday. Isolated showers about the southern agricultural area following the rain.
