MELBOURNE - Mar 14/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and
streams.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea is strengthening as it moves east towards New
Zealand, extending a firm ridge along the Queensland east coast. The monsoon
trough extends from the Gulf of Carpentaria across the Top End of the Northern
Territory. An upper level trough is moving eastwards over southern
Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the northern and eastern
parts of the state, tending to rain at times in the tropics and some moderate to
locally heavy falls. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms through the
northwest, central and southern interior with some light patchy rain at times.
Fine over the far southwest. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds along the east
coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Thursday
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the northern and eastern
parts of the state, tending to rain at times in the tropics with some moderate
to locally heavy falls. Isolated showers and thunderstorms elsewhere, tending
scattered over the southern interior. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds along the
east coast, shifting NW to NE over the northern tropics. Light to moderate SE to
NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Friday
The high should start weakening near New Zealand, and causing the onshore
winds over the southeast coast of Queensland to weaken and the showers to become
more isolated. The next surface and accompanying upper level trough is expected
to enter southwest Queensland, and will assist in producing showers and
thunderstorms over western Queensland and the southern interior. The monsoon
trough is likely to strengthen over the Gulf of Carpentaria and central Cape
York Peninsula, resulting in further widespread shower, rain and thunderstorm
activity over the northern tropics and the northwest of the state, with moderate
to heavy falls possible. Mostly fine with a possible shower elsewhere.
Forecast for Saturday
A new high is expected to drift over southeast Australia, resulting in only
isolated showers about the Southeast and the Capricornia coasts. Another upper
level trough is expected to move over southern Queensland, generating some
isolated showers and storms. The monsoon trough should strengthen as it drifts
southwards across Queensland, resulting in showers, thunderstorms and rain areas
with some moderate to heavy falls across northern, central and western
districts.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will move slowly over southeast Australia, resulting in isolated
showers about the southeast and southern interior. Showers and thunderstorms are
expected to develop from the southwest to central areas of the state. The
monsoon trough is expected to remain slow moving, resulting in showers,
thunderstorms and rain areas with some moderate to heavy falls across northern
and western districts.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The new high is expected to extend a ridge into southeast Queensland,
resulting in some showers about the southeast and central coast Queensland
coast. The monsoon trough is likely to remain active over northern Queensland
with further widespread showers, thunderstorms and rain areas. Mostly fine
conditions expected in the southern parts of the state. Day time temperatures
below average in the tropics and northwest due to the thick cloud.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Thursday.
