Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 10/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high over the Great Australian Bight is maintaining a flow of dry air
across the southern half of the state.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Fine and sunny over the southern half of the state.  Scattered showers and
thunderstorms will continue north of about Camooweal to Mackay. Light to
moderate S to SE winds.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will move slowly eastward across the Great Australian Bight and
extend a strengthening ridge along the southern Queensland coast. This ridge
will lead to freshening southerly winds and isolated showers about the southern
and central east coast. Fine conditions are expected across the remaining
southern parts of the state with early morning temperatures a few degrees below
average. Showers and thunderstorms will continue in the tropics north of about
Camooweal to Bowen.
Forecast for Monday
The high should move east into the Tasman Sea and maintain a ridge along the
east coast of Queensland.  Fresh onshore winds should push isolated showers onto
the southeast and central coasts, extending inland into the central and southern
interior during the day. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue
across the north of the state. Fine conditions in the west.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high should drift towards New Zealand while maintaining a ridge along
most of Queensland's east coast, with generally dry and stable conditions over
the central and southern interior. At least isolated showers are expected about
the eastern districts, more widespread about the northeast coast. Showers and
thunderstorms should persist over the remainder of the northern tropics.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high should slip to the east of New Zealand, but is likely to maintain at
least a weak ridge along the east coast of Queensland.  A weakening onshore flow
should push at least isolated showers over the eastern districts, more
widespread about the northeast coast.  Scattered showers and storms over the
remainder of the northern half of the state, and fine in the west.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The high should remain near New Zealand at the end of the week, maintaining
fine conditions over Queensland's interior.  A weak onshore flow out of the
ridge should direct at least isolated showers over the eastern districts, more
widespread about the southeast coast during Thursday and Friday as a trough over
the Coral Sea moves west towards the coast. Showers and thunderstorms will
continue in the tropics, possibly tending to rain at times near the Gulf of
Carpentaria coast as monsoonal winds strengthen in the region.

Sunday.
