Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 8/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and
streams.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A low pressure system east of the central Queensland coast is expected to
remain well offshore and continue to weaken. The combination of a developing
high pressure system in the Great Australian Bight and a low pressure system off
the New South Wales coast, will result in dry air extending across much of
southern Queensland over the next few days.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms north of about Century Mine to Mackay
with areas of patchy rain. Isolated showers about the southeast of the state.
Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate SE to SW winds, fresh about the central and
southern coasts.
Forecast for Friday
Fine conditions over southern and western Queensland with temperatures a few
degrees below the seasonal average. Scattered showers and thunderstorms north of
about line from Mt Isa to Sarina, spreading to areas of patchy rain. Light to
moderate SW to SE winds with afternoon NE sea breezes about the east coast.
Forecast for Saturday
The high over the Great Australian Bight will move slowly east and maintain
dry southerly winds through southern Queensland where temperatures will remain
below the seasonal average. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue in
the moist, unstable airmass in the north of the state, spreading to areas of
patchy rain. Fine elsewhere.
Forecast for Sunday
The high should move into the eastern Great Australian Bight and extend a
strengthening ridge along the southern Queensland coast, with freshening
southerly winds. These strengthening winds may introduce isolated showers to the
southern and central east coast and adjacent inland. Fine conditions are
expected across the remaining southern parts of the state. Showers and
thunderstorms will continue north of about a line from Mt Isa to Sarina and are
likely to tend to rain at times.
Forecast for Monday
The high should move east into the Tasman Sea and maintain a ridge along the
southern and central east coast. Fresh SE winds along most of the east coast are
expected to bring isolated showers to the east coast and these may extend
further inland into the central and southern interior. Showers and thunderstorms
are expected to continue across the north of the state. Fine conditions should
continue across the west of the state.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The high will move slowly east across the Tasman Sea during the outlook
period and is likely to be centred near New Zealand on Wednesday and Thursday.
Fine conditions are expected for most of southern and western Queensland, though
isolated showers are likely in the east which may increase during Thursday.
Showers and thunderstorms will continue in the tropics, tending to rain at
times.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Friday.
