MELBOURNE - Mar 8/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system is located over the southern Tasman Sea. A low pressure system off the NSW central coast will continue to deepen and move southwards to be located off the southern NSW coast by tonight, before drifting eastwards over the Tasman Sea during Friday. A cold front will reach the southwest coast later Friday and then move across southern Victoria overnight or early Saturday. The next high pressure system will remain south of Adelaide over the weekend, but extend a ridge across southern Victoria. The high will move eastwards across Tasmania to the Tasman Sea during Monday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayRain over Gippsland with local heavy falls about the ranges and in the east. Isolated showers developing over the central district and extending across the ranges in the northeast later this afternoon and evening. Fine over the remainder of the State, partly cloudy in the south and clear in the north. Moderate to fresh east to southeast winds, strong at times about the Gippsland coast and ranges.Friday 9 MarchRain or showers over Gippsland, contracting eastwards and easing to isolated showers during the afternoon. Isolated showers over the central and northeast districts, clearing during the afternoon but developing in the southwest towards evening. Fine over the remainder of the State. Mild in the south, warm in the north. Cloudy in the east, mostly sunny in the north and west. Moderate south to southeasterly winds fresh to strong in the east at first.Fire Danger - High in west.Saturday 10 MarchIsolated showers on and south of the ranges, contracting to the coast and east ranges by the evening. Cool to mild and partly cloudy in the south. Warm and mainly sunny in the north. Moderate southerly winds, fresh at times along the coastSunday 11 MarchIsolated coastal showers, mainly over Gippsland and about the central coast at first. Cool to mild and partly cloudy in the south, mild to warm and mainly sunny in the north. Light to moderate southwest to southeast winds, fresh at times about the coast.Monday 12 MarchIsolated showers mainly over the Gippsland ranges, fine elsewhere. Mild and partly cloudy in the southeast, warm and mainly sunny in the north and west.
