Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 7/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and
streams.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A low pressure system east of the central Queensland coast is expected to
remain well offshore, and weaken gradually during the day. A low pressure system
off the southern New South Wales will deepen during today. A large high pressure
system in the Tasman Sea will move towards the east.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the north of the state, with areas
of patchy rain developing during the afternoon. Isolated showers in the east
about southern and central areas of the state, extending into the central
interior. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate SE to SW winds, fresh about the
central and southern coasts.
Forecast for Friday
A new high will develop over the Great Australian Bight and extend a ridge
across South Australia into southern Queensland. The ridge is expected to
maintain fine conditions over most of southern and western Queensland with
temperatures a few degrees below the seasonal average. Scattered showers and
thunderstorms are still expected north of about line from Mt Isa to Sarina,
spreading to areas of patchy rain. Fine elsewhere.
Forecast for Saturday
The high over the Great Australian Bight will move slowly east and maintain
dry southerly winds through southern Queensland where temperatures will remain
below average. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue in the moist,
unstable airmass in the north of the state, spreading to areas of patchy rain.
Fine elsewhere.
Forecast for Sunday
The high should move into the eastern Great Australian Bight and extend a
strengthening ridge along the southern Queensland coast, with freshening
southerly winds. These strengthening winds may introduce isolated showers to the
southern and central east coast and adjacent inland. Fine conditions are
expected across the remaining southern parts of the state. Showers and
thunderstorms will continue north of about a line from Mt Isa to Sarina and are
likely to tend to rain at times.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The high will move slowly east across the Tasman Sea during the outlook
period and is likely to be centred near New Zealand on Wednesday. Fine
conditions are expected for most of southern and western Queensland, though
isolated showers are likely in the east. Showers and thunderstorms will continue
in the tropics, tending to rain at times.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Thursday.
