Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 7/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea will move slowly eastwards today, while a low pressure system develops off the New South Wales central coast. The low will deepen and move southwards to be located off the southern NSW coast by Thursday night, before drifting eastwards into the Tasman Sea during Friday. A cold front will approach the southwest late Friday and then move across southern Victoria early Saturday. The next high pressure system will remain south of Adelaide over the weekend while another cold front will move across Tasmania late Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayRain increasing over Gippsland with local heavy falls about the ranges and in the east. Isolated showers over the central district and near the Otways clearing during the morning, then redeveloping this evening. Isolated showers developing in the northeast during the afternoon. Fine over the remainder of the State, partly cloudy in the south and mainly sunny in the north. Cool to mild in the east, warm in the north and west. Moderate to fresh east to southeast winds, strong at times about the Gippsland coast and reaching gale force over the Alps this morning.Fire Danger -  Moderate to high in the west and northwest.Friday 9 MarchRain or showers over Gippsland, contracting eastwards and easing to isolated showers during the afternoon. Isolated showers over the central and northeast districts, clearing by the afternoon. Fine over the remainder of the State. Mild in the south, warm in the north. Cloudy in the east, mostly sunny in the north and west. Moderate south to southeasterly winds fresh to strong in the east at first.Saturday 10 MarchIsolated showers on and south of the ranges, contracting to the coast and east ranges by the evening. Cool to mild and partly cloudy in the south. Warm and mainly sunny in the north. Moderate southerly winds, fresh at times along the coastSunday 11 MarchIsolated coastal showers, mainly over Gippsland and about the central coast at first. Cool to mild an partly cloudy in the south with moderate to fresh southerly winds.
