Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 7/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters from St
Lawrence to Burnett Heads.
Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams.

Weather Situation
A low pressure system east of the central Queensland coast is expected to
remain well offshore and weaken to a trough on Thursday. A deep low pressure
system is expected to develop off the southern New South Wales coast overnight.
A large high pressure system southeast of Tasmania will move to the southeast
over the next 24 hours.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the northeast tropics and central
districts. Isolated showers over the remainder of the southeast and southern
interior. Fine in the west and southwest. Light to moderate SE to SW winds,
fresh to strong about the central and southern coasts.
Forecast for Thursday
The low off the New South Wales coast is expected to reinforce the flow of
relatively dry southerly air across most of southern and western Queensland.
Mostly fine conditions are therefore expected across the south and west with
only isolated showers in eastern districts south of about Mackay. Scattered
showers and thunderstorms in the north of the state, with areas of patchy rain.
Light to moderate SE to SW winds, fresh about the Capricornia coast in the
morning.
Forecast for Friday
A new high will develop over the Great Australian Bight and extend a ridge
across South Australia into southern Queensland. The ridge is expected to
maintain fine conditions over most of southern and western Queensland with
temperatures a few degrees below the seasonal average. Scattered showers and
thunderstorms are still expected north of about line from Mt Isa to St Lawrence,
spreading to areas of patchy rain. Fine elsewhere.
Forecast for Saturday
The high over the Great Australian Bight will move slowly east and maintain
dry southerly winds through southern Queensland where temperatures will remain
below average. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue in the moist,
unstable airmass in the north of the state, spreading to areas of patchy rain.

Forecast for Sunday
The high should move into the eastern Great Australian Bight and extend a
strengthening ridge along the southern Queensland coast, with freshening
southerly winds. These strengthening winds may introduce isolated showers to the
east coast south of Bundaberg. Fine conditions are expected across the remaining
southern parts of the state. Showers and thunderstorms will continue north of
about a line from Mt Isa to Mackay and are likely to tend to rain at times.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The high will move slowly east across the Tasman Sea during the outlook
period and is likely to be centre near New Zealand on Wednesday. Fine conditions
are expected for most of southern and western Queensland, though isolated
showers are likely about the east coast. Showers and thunderstorms will continue
in the tropics, tending to rain at times.

Thursday.
