MELBOURNE - Mar 6/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters from Bowen to Point Danger, including Hervey Bay. Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A low pressure system east of the central Queensland coast is expected to remain well offshore and drift slowly towards the north during today. A large high pressure system south of Tasmania extends a firm ridge along the southern and Capricornia coasts. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the northeast tropics and central districts. Scattered showers along the exposed southern coast. Isolated showers over the remainder of the southeast and southern interior. Fine in the west and southwest. Light to moderate SE to SW winds, fresh to strong and gusty about the central and southern coasts. Forecast for Thursday A deep low pressure system is expected to develop off the southern New South Wales coast, reinforcing the flow of relatively dry southerly air across most of southern and western Queensland. Mostly fine with only isolated showers in eastern districts south of about Mackay. Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the north of the state, with areas of patchy rain. Forecast for Friday A ridge extending across South Australia is expected to maintain fine and milder than average temperatures over most of southern and western Queensland. Scattered showers and thunderstorms still expected in the north and northwest of the state, spreading to areas of rain at times. Fine elsewhere. Forecast for Saturday A new high will move into the Great Australian Bight, and maintain dry southerly winds through southern Queensland. Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the north of the state, spreading to patchy rain in parts. Fine elsewhere. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday The high will move slowly east into the Tasman Sea during the outlook period, with fine conditions expected for most of southern and western Queensland, though isolated showers are expected to return to the southern Queensland coasts late Sunday and Monday. Showers and thunderstorms continuing in the tropics, tending to rain at times. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Wednesday.
