Weather Situation
A low pressure system northeast from Fraser Island is expected to remain well
offshore and drift towards the north. A high pressure system is strengthening
south of the continent, and is pushing a strong southerly wind surge along the
southern Queensland coast.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Cloudy with patchy rain from the central interior through to the southeast.
Scattered showers through eastern districts with isolated thunderstorms north of
about Rockhampton. Isolated showers and thunderstorms through remaining northern
and northwestern districts. Fine in the far southwest. Light to moderate SE to
SW winds, fresh and gusty about southern coastal areas.
Forecast for Wednesday
Cloudy with patchy rain through parts of the southeast and southern interior,
tending to isolated showers during the day. Isolated showers and thunderstorms
in the central and northern districts. Fine in the west and southwest. Light to
moderate SE to SW winds, fresh and gusty about the central and southern
coasts.
Forecast for Thursday
A deep low pressure system is expected to develop off the southern New South
Wales coast, reinforcing the flow of relatively dry southerly air across most of
southern and western Queensland. Mostly fine with only isolated showers in
eastern districts south of about Mackay. Isolated showers and thunderstorms in
the north of the state.
Forecast for Friday
A new high in the Great Australian Bight is expected to maintain fine and
milder than average temperatures over most of southern and western Queensland.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms still expected in the north and northwest of
the state, spreading to areas of rain late in the day. Fine elsewhere.
Forecast for Saturday
The high in the Great Australian Bight will be slow moving, maintaining dry
southerly winds through southern Queensland. Scattered showers and isolated
thunderstorms in the north of the state, spreading to patchy rain in parts. Fine
elsewhere.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The high will move slowly east into the Tasman Sea during the outlook period,
with fine conditions expected for most of southern and western Queensland,
though isolated showers are expected to return to the southern east coast by
Monday. Showers and thunderstorms continuing in the tropics.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Wednesday.
