A high pressure system in the Great Australian Bight is moving towards the east, and will push a surface trough northwards through the southeast coast during Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of Monday Thundery rain areas with some moderate to heavy falls over the state's southeast, mostly affecting the Sunshine Coast. Showers and thunderstorms over most remaining parts of the state, with some patchy rain areas extending through the southwest and southern inland parts. Light to moderate SE to SW winds, fresh and gusty about parts of the southeast. Forecast for Tuesday Thundery rain areas with some heavy falls over parts of the southeast, mostly about the Sunshine and Wide Bay coasts, easing to showers from the south during the day. Showers and thunderstorms over remaining eastern districts and about the far north of the state. Early patchy rain and isolated showers in parts of the central inland, clearing during the afternoon. Fine in the far southwest. Light to moderate SE to SW winds, fresh and gusty about parts of the southeast. Forecast for Wednesday The surface low will continue to weaken off the Central Coast while ridging will firm from the south along most of the east coast in the wake of the S'ly wind change. The fresh onshore wind flow will produce scattered showers and areas of rain about the Central and Capricorn Coasts. More isolated showers and storms over the remaining northern and eastern parts of Queensland, with isolated showers for the southern areas. Fine weather will continue over the west and southwest of the state. Forecast for Thursday A deep low may develop off the southern New south Wales coast, driving relatively dry SW to SE winds across most of southern and western Queensland. The majority of the state will therefore be fine, except for some isolated showers about the east coast, and some isolated showers and storms over the north and northwest of the state. Forecast for Friday The deep low off the southern New South Wales coast will likely move eastwards, with a relatively dry SW to SE air stream still prevalent across most of southern and western Queensland. Isolated showers and thunderstorms still expected in the north and northwest of the state, with isolated showers along most of the east coast. Fine elsewhere. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday A new high in the Great Australian Bight will maintain dry and southerly winds and fine conditions over most of Queensland. Isolated showers may occur about parts of the east coast, and isolated showers and thunderstorms over the northern tropics. Some showers and possible thunderstorms could develop in the west of the state by Monday. Overnight temperatures should drop well below average over the southern and southeast inland in the relatively dry conditions. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Tuesday.
