Weather Situation
A low pressure system was just north of Hervey Bay and will cross the coast
by this evening. The low will begin to move northwards during Monday afternoon
and reach the Central Coast area late Tuesday. A fresh gusty s'ly wind change
will move onto the far southern coast on Tuesday. A firm ridge will develop
along most of the east coast during Tuesday and Wednesday.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms and areas of rain with some moderate to
heavy falls over western districts. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the
far northern tropics and the north-west of the state. Showers over remaining
eastern districts with rain areas increasing over the southeast corner. Some
moderate to heavy falls likely in this area. Moderate E to NE winds developing
along most of the southern coast. Light to moderate SE winds along the east
tropical coast with light to moderate SE to NE winds over the interior.
Forecast for Monday
The low pressure system will begin to move northwards late in the day. Rain
areas with some heavy falls over the south-east corner of the state. Showers and
storms over remaining eastern districts and over the far north of the state. A
weakening patchy rain and thunderstorm band will extend from the north-west to
the south-east inland. Fine elsewhere. Moderate to fresh SE to NE winds about
the south-east corner with light to moderate S to SE winds along most of the
remaining east coast. Mostly light to moderate SE winds over the interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The low pressure system will continue to move northwards in a weakening mode
and finally decay overnight off the central coast. So the rain areas with
moderate to heavy falls will contract northwards and by evening be confined to
parts of the Central Coast and Capricornia. Over the south-east corner the rain
areas will decrease to showers mainly during the morning. Showers and storms
will occur over remaining northern and eastern areas of the state. Fine
conditions will occur over the west and south-west of the state. The strong
winds near the low will ease during the morning. A fresh S'ly wind change will
move onto the far southern coast during the afternoon.
Forecast for Wednesday
The surface low will continue to decay off the Central Coast while ridging
will firm from the south along most of the east coast in the wake of the S'ly
wind change. So further rain areas will occur about the Central Coast but will
ease to showers during the afternoon and evening. Showers will continue in the
onshore stream along the coast south from the low. About the far southern coast
and over the south-east inland the showers will be enhanced mainly during the
morning by an approaching upper trough. Showers and storms will continue over
remaining northern and eastern districts of the state. Fine weather will
continue over the west and south-west of the state.
Forecast for Thursday
A deep low will develop off the southern New south Wales coast and will drive
dry SW to SE winds across most of southern and western Queensland. Isolated
showers will persist about the southern and central coasts in the S'ly airflow.
Over the far north of the state showers and storms will continue in the humid
conditions.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The low pressure system off the New south Wales coast will only move slowly
away from the across the Tasman Sea. As a result this system will drive dry SW
to SE winds across most southern, central and western areas of the state into
and through next weekend. Only very isolated stream showers may occur about the
exposed southern and central coasts of the state. With the onset of the dry
winds night time temperatures will drop below average over the southern and
south-east inland. Over the far north of the state showers and storms will
continue in the humid air mass.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
