MELBOURNE - Mar 4/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system is located southwest of Tasmania with an associated cold front, expected to move across southern Victoria and Bass Strait overnight and during Monday morning as the low moves away to the southeast. The next high pressure system over the Bight will extend a ridge towards Victoria on Monday, then move southeastwards across Tasmania during Tuesday and Wednesday. A low will develop off the southern NSW coast during Thursday. Forecast for the rest of SundayIsolated showers on and south of the ranges, mainly in the east and becoming scattered in the southwest. Moderate to fresh northwest to southwest winds.Monday 5 MarchIsolated showers on and south of the ranges, more widespread about the west and central coasts. Fine and mainly sunny over the northern plains. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.Fire Danger - Locally high in the north.Tuesday 6 MarchIsolated showers on and south of the ranges, mostly clearing in the southwest during the day but becoming more widespread across East Gippsland later in the afternoon. Fine and mainly sunny over the northern plains. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh south to southwesterly winds, strengthening over east Gippsland in the evening.Wednesday 7 MarchScattered showers over Gippsland and the southern Alps. Isolated showers clearing during the morning about the Otways. Fine elsewhere, partly cloudy in the south and mainly sunny in the north. Mild in the southeast but warm elsewhere. A moderate to fresh southeast wind, strong at times about the coast.Thursday 8 MarchScattered showers over Gippsland, tending to rain areas over East Gippsland. Fine over the remainder of the State, partly cloudy in the south and mainly sunny in the north. Mild in the east, warmer in the north and west.
