MELBOURNE - Mar 3/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over the Tasman sea extends a ridge along the east coast of Queensland, while a surface trough over the Coral Sea is moving westwards, and is expected to cross the southern and central coasts of Queensland late on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Scattered showers and thunderstorms and areas of rain with some moderate to heavy falls over the western districts and parts of the Central West and the Warrego region. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the far northern tropics and the north-west of the state. Showers are expected over the eastern districts, and thundery rain areas are expected to develop about the state's southeast late in the day. Mainly fine over the eastern interior except for some isolated showers. Mainly moderate SE to NE winds along the east coast, fresh at times about the far southeast and northeast coasts. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the eastern districts, and moderate S to SW winds over the Channel Country. Forecast for Monday A surface trough should move from the Coral Sea onto the southeast coast early in the morning, continuing to produce thundery rain areas with moderate to heavy falls over the state's southeast. Scattered showers and isolated storms about the remaining parts of the east coast and over the far northern tropics. A weakening upper trough will produce scattered showers, isolated storms and areas of patchy rain over the western districts, before contracting into the central and southern interior late in the day. Mainly fine over the eastern interior. Forecast for Tuesday The surface trough is expected to move further inland into the southeast interior, maintaining the areas of thundery rain over the state's southeast, with some moderate to heavy falls again possible. An upper level trough will allow more isolated showers and storms to form over the remaining eastern, northern and central districts of the state. A high south of the continent will direct dry air over the state's interior, resulting in fine and mostly sunny conditions to the Channel Country. The high should also push fresh to strong S to SE winds along the southeast coast. Forecast for Wednesday The surface trough will decay over the southeast interior, causing the rain areas to break up to showers during the day over the southeast districts. A persistent upper trough over the state's southeast will assist showers and storms to continue over the remainder of the eastern half of the state, while fresh to strong onshore winds will make showers tend to areas of rain about the central coast region. Fine over the interior. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday A high over the southeast of the continent will drive more settled conditions across Queensland late in the week, though showers are still likely along parts of the east coast, particularly about the northeast and the central coast. Mainly isolated showers and storms continuing over the far northern tropics, and mainly fine over most of the interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Sunday.
