web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman sea is moving eastwards and extended a ridge along the
east coast of Queensland. A surface trough was located over the Coral Sea and
was moving westwards. It is expected to move onto the southern and central coast
of Queensland overnight Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Cloudy with scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms and some moderate
to heavy falls over the far west of the state. Scattered showers and
thunderstorms over the far northern tropics and the north-west of the state.
Showers along remaining east coast districts and the adjacent inland. Fine
elsewhere. Mostly moderate SE winds along the east coast. Light to moderate NE
to N winds over the interior shifting S to SE over the south-west of the state.
Forecast for Sunday
Cloudy with scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms and some moderate
to heavy falls over the far west of the state clearing from the south-west
corner late in the day. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the far
northern tropics and the north-west of the state. Showers along remaining east
coast districts and the adjacent inland with some rain areas developing about
the Wide Bay area late in the day. Fine elsewhere. Light to SE winds along the
east coast shifting moderate to fresh NE along the far southern coast late in
the day . Light to moderate NE to N winds over the interior shifting S to SE
over the west of the state.
Forecast for Monday
An upper level trough will move into south-eastern Australia and will help to
maintain unstable conditions over the south-east of the state. So the cloud band
with showers, rain areas and thunderstorms over the west of the state will move
eastwards into central areas of the state. Rain and shower areas will occur over
the south-east corner of the state while showers and/or storms will continue in
most remaining areas of the state.
Forecast for Tuesday
The upper level trough will move into southern Queensland as a surface front
moves onto the far southern coast of Queensland. So further rain and shower
areas will occur over the south-east corner of the state. Some moderate falls
may even occur. Showers and storms will occur over remaining eastern and
northern districts of the state. Fine conditions will occur over the south-west
in the wake of the upper trough. Fresh to strong S to SE winds will develop
along the far southern coast.
Forecast for Wednesday
The upper trough will move eastwards a little and will maintain unstable
conditions over much of the south-east. So further rain and showers areas will
occur over parts of the south-east while showers and storms will continue over
remaining northern and eastern areas of the state. Fresh to strong S to SE winds
will continue along the far southern coast.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
Showers and rain areas with some thunderstorms will continue over most far
eastern and northern parts of the state into next weekend as light to moderate
SE to NE winds persist over the area. Winds will freshen along the far southern
coast again late in the forecast period and this will result in showers becoming
most scattered along this section of coast and the adjacent inland. Fine
conditions will prevail over most of the west and south-west of the state into
next weekend.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
