MELBOURNE - Mar 3/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over the Tasman sea is moving eastwards and extended a ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A surface trough was located over the Coral Sea and was moving westwards. It is expected to move onto the southern and central coast of Queensland overnight Sunday. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Cloudy with scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms and some moderate to heavy falls over the far west of the state. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the far northern tropics and the north-west of the state. Showers along remaining east coast districts and the adjacent inland. Fine elsewhere. Mostly moderate SE winds along the east coast. Light to moderate NE to N winds over the interior shifting S to SE over the south-west of the state. Forecast for Sunday Cloudy with scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms and some moderate to heavy falls over the far west of the state clearing from the south-west corner late in the day. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the far northern tropics and the north-west of the state. Showers along remaining east coast districts and the adjacent inland with some rain areas developing about the Wide Bay area late in the day. Fine elsewhere. Light to SE winds along the east coast shifting moderate to fresh NE along the far southern coast late in the day . Light to moderate NE to N winds over the interior shifting S to SE over the west of the state. Forecast for Monday An upper level trough will move into south-eastern Australia and will help to maintain unstable conditions over the south-east of the state. So the cloud band with showers, rain areas and thunderstorms over the west of the state will move eastwards into central areas of the state. Rain and shower areas will occur over the south-east corner of the state while showers and/or storms will continue in most remaining areas of the state. Forecast for Tuesday The upper level trough will move into southern Queensland as a surface front moves onto the far southern coast of Queensland. So further rain and shower areas will occur over the south-east corner of the state. Some moderate falls may even occur. Showers and storms will occur over remaining eastern and northern districts of the state. Fine conditions will occur over the south-west in the wake of the upper trough. Fresh to strong S to SE winds will develop along the far southern coast. Forecast for Wednesday The upper trough will move eastwards a little and will maintain unstable conditions over much of the south-east. So further rain and showers areas will occur over parts of the south-east while showers and storms will continue over remaining northern and eastern areas of the state. Fresh to strong S to SE winds will continue along the far southern coast. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday Showers and rain areas with some thunderstorms will continue over most far eastern and northern parts of the state into next weekend as light to moderate SE to NE winds persist over the area. Winds will freshen along the far southern coast again late in the forecast period and this will result in showers becoming most scattered along this section of coast and the adjacent inland. Fine conditions will prevail over most of the west and south-west of the state into next weekend. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Sunday.
