MELBOURNE - Mar 3/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system is moving slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea, while a trough over western Victoria will deepen with a low pressure centre forming southwest of Victoria tonight. The trough will move across the State on Sunday as the low continues to develop and moves south of Tasmania. The next high pressure system will develop over the Bight and extend a ridge towards Victoria on Monday, then move southeastwards across Tasmania on Tuesday and to the Tasman Sea later Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayRain areas with heavy falls over northeast, particularly about the ranges. Isolated thunderstorms possible over the southwest and eastern districts. Cloudy with moderate to fresh northeasterly winds, strong at times in the far east and near the Gippsland coast and reaching gale force at times about the ranges.Sunday 4 MarchRain contracting eastwards and clearing through central areas early morning and in the east by early afternoon. Further heavy falls over the northeast. Isolated showers clearing in the northwest early morning, but persisting on and south of the ranges. Chance of an early thunderstorm in the southwest and an afternoon or evening thunderstorm in the southeast. Mild with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds extending throughout.Fire Danger - High in the west.Monday 5 MarchIsolated showers on and south of the ranges, more widespread west and central coasts. Fine and mainly sunny over the northern plains. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.Tuesday 6 MarchIsolated showers on and south of the ranges, mostly clearing in the southwest during the day but becoming more widespread across East Gippsland later in the afternoon. Fine and mainly sunny over the northern plains. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh south to southwesterly winds, strengthening over east Gippsland in the evening.Wednesday 7 MarchScattered showers over Gippsland and the southern Alps. Isolated showers clearing during the morning about the Otways. Fine elsewhere, partly cloudy in the south and mainly sunny in the north. Mild in the southeast but warm elsewhere.
