streams.

web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the Coral Sea extends a weakening ridge along the east Queensland
coast. A surface trough extends from central Australia to the far southern New
South Wales coast and lies through far southwest Queensland. Another trough lies
over the eastern Coral Sea and is likely to move west, approaching the central
coast of Queensland over the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the tropics and far western
districts with some rain areas and moderate to heavy falls over the Channel
Country. Isolated showers near the east coast between Bowen to about Gladstone.
Fine and very warm conditions are expected elsewhere. Mostly moderate NE to NW
winds, fresh at times over the far southwest.
Forecast for Friday
A cloud band with scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms with
moderate to heavy falls will persist over the Channel Country. Scattered showers
and thunderstorms through the tropics north of about Bowen and through
northwestern Queensland. Isolated showers are expected over the remaining east
coast north of about Gladstone. Fine and very warm elsewhere. Mostly moderate NE
to NW winds.
Forecast for Saturday
The surface trough will remain slow-moving over the far southwest, producing
scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms with moderate to heavy falls
should continue over the Channel Country with scattered showers and
thunderstorms in the northwest. A high over the Tasman Sea will extend a ridge
over the southeast of the state maintaining mostly fine conditions, although
isolated showers may develop about the southern border ranges near a decaying
southerly change. The Coral Sea trough will move westwards towards the central
coast, enhancing shower and thunderstorm activity along the coast and adjacent
inland between about bowen and Gladstone, with more isolated showers southwards
to the Sunshine Coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will occur elsewhere
through the tropics. Fine conditions are expected over the remainder.
Forecast for Sunday
The trough over the far southwest will remain slow moving but should weaken
with rainfall amounts in the Channel Country easing significantly. The Coral Sea
trough should move onshore near the central coast during the day. Showers and
thunderstorms are likely over most of the interior and tropics, and near the
east coast north of about Fraser Island. Scattered showers are expected about
the Sunshine Coast with isolated showers further south into southeast
Queensland.
Forecast for Monday
An upper level trough will move northeast trough NSW approaching the
Queensland border, with an associated surface trough moving through the southern
inland. These systems combined with a moist unstable airmass will produce
scattered showers and thunderstorms, while more isolated shower and thunderstorm
activity is likely over the west of the state and the tropics. Scattered showers
should affect the southeast coast.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The surface trough extending through far southern Queensland will most likely
move further north and east, with the coastal section arriving into southeast
Queensland as a southeasterly wind change, most likely on Tuesday. Isolated
showers and thunderstorms are expected over southern Queensland with more
widespread activity near the surface trough. A deep, moist easterly wind flow
with showers and thunderstorms should persist into much of northeastern and
central Queensland.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Friday.
