Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 1/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure trough over far northeast Victoria will clear this evening. A high pressure system south of the Bight will pass south of Tasmania late Friday, reaching the Tasman Sea on Saturday. Another trough is likely to develop over far western Victoria during Saturday with a low pressure centre expected to form near southwest Victoria Saturday night. The trough will move across Victoria on Sunday as the low pressure system moves south of Tasmania. The next high pressure system will form over the Bight during the weekend and will extend a ridge towards Victoria on Monday.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayRain areas in the far northeast easing this evening, but areas of rain persisting over Gippsland. Only isolated showers and drizzle patches over remaining southern and mountain districts. Fresh southeasterly winds, strong about the ranges coast.Friday 2 MarchScattered showers about the Gippsland ranges, but only isolated showers over remaining districts. A mild and mostly cloudy day. Generally fresh to strong easterly winds.Fire Danger -  High in the west, generally low elsewhere.Saturday 3 MarchRain areas extending throughout, although just patchy rain in the far west. Some heavy falls are likely to develop over the northeast, particularly about the ranges. Isolated thunderstorms possible over the southwest late in the day. Mild with moderate to locally fresh northeasterly winds.Sunday 4 MarchRain over the far northeast at first. Scattered showers, elsewhere, more isolated in the northwest, gradually contracting to on and south of the ranges by the evening and becoming isolated. Mild and mostly cloudy with moderate to fresh westerly winds extending throughout.Monday 5 MarchIsolated showers on and south of the ranges. Fine over the northern plains. Cool to mild with moderate to locally fresh southwesterly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EDT Friday.Product IDV10310
