web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the Coral Sea extends a weakening ridge along the east Queensland
coast. A surface trough extends from central Australia to the far southern New
South Wales coast and lies through far southwest Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the tropics and far western
districts with some rain areas and moderate to heavy falls over the Channel
Country. Isolated showers near the east coast between Bowen to about Gladstone.
Fine and very warm conditions are expected elsewhere. Mostly moderate NE to NW
winds, fresh at times over the far southwest.
Forecast for Friday
The surface trough over the southwest of the state will remain slow-moving,
and will maintain a cloud band with scattered showers, rain areas and
thunderstorms with moderate to heavy falls over the Channel Country. Scattered
showers and thunderstorms will persist through the tropics north of about Bowen
and through northwestern Queensland. Isolated showers are expected over the
remaining east coast north of about Gladstone. Fine and very warm elsewhere.
Mostly moderate NE to NW winds.
Forecast for Saturday
The surface trough in the southwest will move a little further northeast.
Scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms with moderate to heavy falls
should continue over the Channel Country with scattered showers and
thunderstorms in the northwest. A high over the Tasman Sea will extend a ridge
over the southeast of the state maintaining mostly fine conditions, although
isolated showers may develop about the southern border ranges. A trough in the
Coral Sea will move westwards towards the east central coast, enhancing shower
and thunderstorm activity along the coast and adjacent inland north of about
Gladstone, with more isolated showers north of Fraser Island. Isolated showers
and thunderstorms will occur elsewhere through the tropics. Fine conditions are
expected over the remainder.
Forecast for Sunday
The trough over the far southwest will remain slow moving but should weaken
with rainfall amounts in the Channel Country easing significantly. The trough in
the Coral Sea should move onshore near the central coast during the day. Showers
and thunderstorms are likely over most of the interior and tropics, and near the
east coast north of about Rockhampton. Scattered showers are expected about the
Wide Bay with isolated showers further south into southeast Queensland.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The surface trough extending through far southern Queensland will most likely
move further eastwards, gradually extending a southeasterly wind change through
southern Queensland waters, most likely on Tuesday. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms are expected over southern Queensland with more widespread
activity near the surface trough. A deep, moist easterly wind flow with showers
and thunderstorms should persist into much of northeastern and central
Queensland.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Thursday.
