Australia -- South Australia Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 29/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A trough of low pressure over the northeast of the State will move slowly northeastwards as a high pressure system southwest of the Bight strengthens as it moves east over the next few days. An upper level trough will maintain a band of rain, heavy at times and isolated thunderstorms, over the interior of South Australia that will slowly contract to the northeast later in the week. A mid level low is expected to develop over Eyre Peninsula on Friday.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayAreas of rain over most of the state, patchy in the far south and west, tending widespread with isolated thunderstorms, scattered in the far northeast, and possible locally heavy falls in parts of the Pastoral and Flinders districts. Fresh south to southeasterly winds, becoming strong about the coasts during the afternoon. Winds tending moderate northeasterly in the far northeast.Thursday 1 MarchAreas of rain northeast of about Coober Pedy to Clare, tending widespread over the Northeast Pastoral district with possible locally heavy falls. Isolated showers and patchy rain elsewhere tending to scattered showers, areas of rain and possible thunderstorms about Eyre Peninsula late evening. Mild to warm with fresh southeasterly winds, strong at times about the coasts.Friday 2 MarchAreas of rain northeast of about Coober Pedy to Hawker tending widespread with isolated thunderstorms and possible locally heavy falls over the Northeast Pastoral. Isolated showers over the coastal areas and eastern border area with possible showers over the remainder of the agricultural area. Generally mild with moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds.Saturday 3 MarchAreas of rain over the Northeast Pastoral with isolated thunderstorms and possible locally heavy falls. Fine in the northwest with isolated showers elsewhere, tending to scattered over southern Eyre Peninsula, Mt Lofty ranges, coastal areas and eastern border area. Mild to warm with fresh southeast to southwesterly winds.Sunday 4 MarchArea of rain and possible isolated thunderstorms in the northeast. Isolated showers about the agricultural area. Mild to warm throughout with moderate to fresh southeast to southwesterly winds. Cumulative rainfall totals from Wednesday afternoon until midnight Saturday are expected to be up to 1 to 5 mm in the far south and west grading to 5 to 30 mm over the agricultural area with possible local falls of 30 to 50 mm. Falls of 50 to 100 mm are expected over the Flinders and Pastoral districts, with possible falls of 100 to 200 mm in parts of the pastorals.Monday until WednesdayPatchy rain clearing from the north on Monday and isolated showers about southern and western coasts clearing on Tuesday. Mild to warm with moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:30 am CDT Thursday.Product IDS10033
