MELBOURNE - Feb 28/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system south of the Bight will strengthen today, extending a ridge south of Tasmania. An inland trough over New South Wales will extend into northern Victoria today, then deepen on Thursday. The high will drift towards southern Tasmania Friday night, cradling the inland trough. As the high reaches the Tasman Sea on Saturday, the trough is likely to deepen over western Victoria, with a low pressure centre expected to form near southwest Victoria Saturday night. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers in the far north extending slowly southwards and tending to areas of rain in the north. Scattered showers in Gippsland. Drizzle patches developing near the central and west coast. Mild and mostly cloudy with a moderate to fresh southeasterly wind.Fire Danger - Generally low to moderate, but locally high in the west.Thursday 1 MarchPatchy rain in the north contracting eastwards late in the day. Scattered showers and drizzle patches in the south, mainly over Gippsland. Mild with fresh southeasterly winds.Friday 2 MarchPatchy rain extending throughout. Mild and mostly cloudy with generally fresh easterly winds.Saturday 3 MarchPatchy rain, more widespread in the east with isolated thunderstorms possible.
