MELBOURNE - Feb 27/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough over Victoria will move slowly eastwards tonight and Tuesday and is expected to clear the northeast of the State on Tuesday afternoon. A high pressure system will move south of the Bight on Tuesday and will strengthen on Wednesday, extending a a ridge south of Tasmania. An inland trough over New South Wales will extend into northeast Victoria on Wednesday and will deepen on Thursday as it drifts eastwards. The high will dirft towards southern Tasmania Friday night. Forecast for the rest of MondayOnly isolated showers over the southwest, but areas of rain and local thunderstorms over remaining districts with some heavy falls possible.Tuesday 28 FebruaryIsolated showers over southwest Victoria. Areas of rain and isolated thunderstorms elsewhere, more widespread about the northeast with some heavy falls. Mild with a moderate to fresh southerly wind.Fire Danger - Generally low to moderateWednesday 29 FebruaryRain areas in the north and east. Dry elsewhere apart from isolated showers extending to the central coast during the afternoon and evening. Mild with a moderate to fresh southeasterly wind.Thursday 1 MarchPatchy rain in the north contracting eastwards during the day. Scattered showers in the south, mainly over Gippsland. Mild with moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds.Friday 2 MarchAreas of rain over Gippsland. Isolated showers over remaining southern districts, but fine north of the divide.
