Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea extended a firm ridge along the most of the east
coast of Queensland. This ridge will begin to weaken during Tuesday. A front
will move onto the southern New South Wales coast on Tuesday and then move
slowly northwards.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms with some rain areas and moderate to
locally heavy falls about the central coast and interior, and the north tropical
coast. Scattered showers over the south eastern districts, more isolated in the
far south. Showers and thunderstorms over remaining areas of the state. Moderate
to fresh SE winds along most of the east coast shifting light to moderate NE
over the interior.
Forecast for Monday
Scattered showers with some rain areas and some moderate to heavy falls about
the central coast and interior, and the north tropical coast. Isolated showers
about the southeast coast. Scattered showers and thunderstorms about the
northern tropics, more isolated in the west of the state. Fine in the southeast
interior. Moderate to fresh SE winds along most of the east coast shifting light
to moderate NE over the interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high over the Tasman Sea will begin to weaken while the middle ridge
across most of the state will be maintained. A weak monsoon trough will become
established through Torres Strait. So showers and storms will continue over the
far north, west and southwest of the state. Isolated showers will continue along
most of the southern coast increasing to scattered about parts of the east
tropical coast and the adjacent inland. Again some moderate to heavy falls
possible about the north tropical coast and the Herbert Burdekin. Fine
conditions elsewhere.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will continue to weaken while the middle level ridge will move
eastwards as a new upper trough moves into Western Australia. The monsoon trough
will move onto northern Cape York Peninsula. So showers and storms will continue
over the far north, west and southwest of the state. Isolated showers will
continue along most of the southern and central coast and the adjacent inland
and will become scattered about the north tropical coast where some rain areas
may occur. Fine conditions elsewhere.
Forecast for Thursday
The new upper level trough will split over Western Australia with the
southern section moving into southeast Australia. The monsoon trough remains
over the far northern Cape York Peninsula. So showers and storms will continue
over the far north, west and southwest of the state. Isolated showers will
continue along most of the southern and central coast and the adjacent inland
and will become scattered about the north tropical coast where some rain areas
may occur. Fine conditions elsewhere.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The upper level trough will move through southeast Australia, spreading some
high cloud, rain and local thunder across the southwest and southern inland
border areas. Showers and storms will continue over the far north and west of
the state and also over the southwest near the cloud band. Showers will continue
along the east tropical coast and become scattered about the north tropical
coast. The coastal section of the surface front will move along the southern
Queensland coast Friday or Saturday. In the wake of this system fresh to strong
SE winds will again occur along the southern coast with some showers, while
storms can be expected ahead of the front.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
