MELBOURNE - Feb 26/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A trough of low pressure near Ceduna to Kingscote will continue to move slowly northeastwards to be near Tarcoola to Whyalla to Lameroo by midnight on Sunday and near Oodnadatta to Broken Hill by Monday afternoon. A high pressure ridge will develop in the wake of the trough and the associated high pressure system will be positioned to the south of the Bight on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of SundayIsolated showers and thunderstorms, increasing to scattered showers over Eyre Peninsula and the southern agricultural area. Showers increasing to scattered after midday over Eyre Peninsula and the remainder of the southern agricultural area. Hot in the north, grading to mild to warm in the south. Moderate northerly winds, fresh at times, ahead of a milder, southwest to southeasterly change extending from the west to reach a line Tarcoola to Whyalla to Lameroo late evening.Monday 27 FebruaryAreas of rain and possible thunderstorms, apart from in the far northeast, contracting to northeast of about Tarcoola to Adelaide to Naracoorte by evening. Isolated showers and thunderstorms developing northeast of Coober Pedy to Renmark from late morning, contracting to the far northeast by evening. Hot with moderate northerly winds in the northeast, ahead of a milder moderate to fresh southerly change, reaching a line Oodnadatta to Marla late evening. Mild otherwise with moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds.Tuesday 28 FebruaryAreas of rain and possible thunderstorms northeast of about Ceduna to Adelaide, becoming widespread with locally heavy falls possible in the Pastoral and Flinders districts. Isolated thunderstorms in the far northeast. Mild in the south grading to hot in the far northeast. Moderate south to southeast winds, fresh about the coasts, tending light northeasterly in the far northeast.Wednesday 29 February Areas of rain north of about Port Lincoln to Adelaide, becoming widespread with locally heavy falls possible in parts of the Pastoral and Flinders districts. Fine otherwise. Mild in the south grading to hot in the far northeast. Moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds, tending light to moderate northeasterly in the northeast. Thursday 1 MarchAreas of rain northeast of about Tarcoola to Clare, contracting to the Northeast Pastoral district by evening. Fine otherwise apart from possible light showers about southern and western coasts. Cumulative rainfall totals from Sunday afternoon until midnight Thursday are expected to be 5 to 30 mm over the agricultural area and West Coast district, increasing to 15 to 50 mm over the northern agricultural areas and with thunderstorms. Falls of 50 to 80 mm are expected over the Pastoral and Flinders districts with local falls of 80 to 120mm possible.Friday until SundayAreas of rain in the north extending south during the period. Possible light showers about western and southern coasts Friday and Saturday morning.
