streams.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
An upper level low over northeast New South Wales is continuing to move
further southwest while weakening. A firm ridge along the southern and central
coast of Queensland will be maintained over the next few days as a high over the
Tasman Sea strengthens.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms about most of the state,
spreading to rain areas along parts of the east coast and into the southern
interior. Some moderate falls about parts of the central and northeast coast.
Light to moderate E to NE winds over most of the state, fresh at times about the
east coast.
Forecast for Sunday
Scattered showers in the east, with isolated thunderstorms north of
Gladstone. Showers spreading to rain areas and some moderate falls about parts
of the central and northeast coast. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the
interior, with rain areas about the southern interior. Light to moderate E to NE
winds over most of the state, fresh at times about the east coast.
Forecast for Monday
The high over the Tasman sea will maintain the ridge along the east coast,
directing drier air over the southeast interior, leaving the region fine.
Moderate to fresh SE winds will continue along most of the east coast and direct
only isolated showers onto the southern coast. More widespread shower activity
is expected over the central coast and nearby inland areas, and the showers
should spread to rain areas about the north tropical coast with some moderate to
heavy falls possible. Generally isolated showers and storms will occur over the
remainder of the state.
Forecast for Tuesday
The ridge along the east coast will begin to weaken as the high over the
Tasman Sea loses strength. Isolated showers will continue along the southern
coast and will again be more widespread about the state's far northeast. These
showers will again tend to rain at times about the north tropical coast where
some moderate to heavy falls are possible. Isolated showers and storms will
continue over the far north and far west of the state. Fine over the southeast,
southern and central interior of the state.
Forecast for Wednesday
The ridge along the east coast will weaken further, contracting the isolated
showers north of the central coast with scattered showers north of Townsville.
Showers and thunderstorms spreading to rain areas through the northern tropical
east. Showers and thunderstorms through the remaining areas of northern
Queensland due to unstable conditions. The next upper trough will move through
southern Australia, destabilising the atmosphere through the southwest of the
state and producing showers and thunderstorms through the southwest and southern
interior. Isolated afternoon showers for southeastern Queensland, mostly near
the border.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The upper level trough will amplify through southern Queensland during the
outlook period, destabilising conditions through the state and producing showers
and thunderstorms for most areas. A surface trough with push through the
southwest, producing fine and dry conditions over the southern interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
