MELBOURNE - Feb 24/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation An upper level low over south-east Queensland will move westwards and weaken over northern New south Wales during the day. A ridge along the southern and central coast of Queensland will firm and spread northwards over the next few days as the high over the Tasman Sea strengthens. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Patchy rain areas over the southeast during the morning, breaking up into showers and storms during the day. Scattered showers and isolated storms about the remainder of the east coast, spreading to areas of rain with some moderate falls about parts of the central and northeast coast. Mainly scattered showers and storms over the remainder of the state, spreading to patchy rain areas about the southeast interior. Light to moderate E to NE winds over most of the state, fresh at times about the east coast. Forecast for Sunday The high over the Tasman sea will maintain the ridge along the east and will direct moderate to fresh SE winds into most east coast districts. The ridge should allow conditions to ease further about the state's southeast, with mainly isolated showers expected. A fresh and humid onshore flow should continue to produce scattered showers, isolated storms and areas of rain about the central and northeast coast, with moderate to locally heavy falls possible. Meanwhile an upper level trough over the state's far southwest should combine with humid air to produce scattered showers and storms over the remainder of the state, spreading to patchy rain areas later in the day over the southern interior. Forecast for Monday Ridging will persist along most of the east coast, directing drier air over the southeast interior, leaving the region fine. Moderate to fresh SE winds will continue along most of the east coast and direct only isolated showers onto the southern coast. More widespread shower activity is expected over the central coast and nearby inland areas, and the showers should spread to rain areas about the north tropical coast with some moderate to heavy falls possible. Generally isolated showers and storms will occur over the remainder of the state. Forecast for Tuesday The ridge along the east coast will begin to weaken as the high over the Tasman Sea loses strength. Isolated showers will continue along the southern coast and will again be more widespread about the state's far northeast. These showers will again tend to rain at times about the north tropical coast where some moderate to heavy falls are possible. Isolated showers and storms will continue over the far north and far west of the state. Fine over the south-east, southern and central interior of the state. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday A new high pressure system will enter the Tasman Sea from the west near the middle of the week, and a surface trough associated with it will work with a weak upper level trough to produce some showers and storms over the southern districts during the outlook period. Showers and storms should continue over the far north of the state, and mainly isolated showers should continue over the remainder of the east coast. Fine over the bulk of the state's interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Saturday. Weather & WarningsAustraliaNew South WalesVictoriaQueenslandWarnings SummaryForecastsBrisbane ForecastQld.
