MELBOURNE - Feb 24/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea will remain almost stationary on the weekend before weakening early next week. A low pressure trough will enter southwest Victoria late Sunday afternoon, then will move slowly eastwards during Monday but will not clear far eastern Victoria until Tuesday afternoon. Forecast for the rest of FridayFine. Light to moderate northerly winds and coastal seabreezes.Saturday 25 FebruaryFine and mostly sunny. A warm to hot day with moderate to fresh northerly winds, although lighter in the east with local afternoon seabreezes developing along the Gippsland coast.Fire Danger - Very High, reaching Severe in the Wimmera and the South West districts.Sunday 26 FebruaryIsolated showers extending to most districts late in the day with possible thunderstorms over the north and west. Warm to hot and becoming humid with fresh northerly winds.Monday 27 FebruaryShowers at first, but tending to areas of rain during the day. Scattered thunderstorms with some heavy falls possible. Warm and humid northerly winds ahead of a cooler southwest to southerly change slowly extending from the southwest.Tuesday 28 FebruaryRain and isolated thunderstorms in the north and east contracting to the far northeast later. Isolated showers to follow in the south.
