Weather Situation
An upper level trough extended across southern Queensland with an upper low
developing over south-east Queensland. A ridge on the southern Queensland coast
will strengthen and extend northwards along the east coast over the next few
days as the high over the Tasman Sea strengthens. A surface trough is located
off the far southern coast of Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Cloudy with rain areas and local thunder over the south-east corner of the
state. Some moderate falls likely. Showers and thunderstorms over much of the
remainder of the state though fine conditions will occur over south-west and
parts of the southern interior. Winds mostly light to moderate SE to NE, fresh
to strong at times along the southern coast.
Forecast for Friday
Continuing cloudy with rain areas and local thunder over the south-east
corner. Some moderate to heavy falls will occur especially about the south-east
coast. Showers and thunderstorms will occur in most remaining areas of the state
and tend to scattered over the far west and eastern districts. Fine conditions
will persist over the far south-west. Winds will be mostly light to moderate SE
to NE tending to fresh at times along parts of the east coast.
Forecast for Saturday
The upper low will move westwards and out of the state. Consequently, the
cloudy conditions with rain and local thunder over the south-east corner will
weaken to only isolated showers and storms. However, some moderate to heavy
falls will persist through the early morning especially about the south-east
coast. Showers and storms will continue in most remaining areas of the state
and again tend to isolated over central areas. The ridge along the east coast
will continue to firm and will maintain moderate to fresh SE winds in most east
coast districts and more so along the southern coast.
Forecast for Sunday
The high over the Tasman sea will maintain the ridge along the east and will
direct moderate to fresh SE winds into most east coast districts. Conditions
will begin to dry over the south-east of the state so only isolated showers will
occur and then mainly about the coast. Elsewhere, over the state showers and
storms will continue in the moist air mass.
Forecast for Monday
Ridging will persist along most of the east coast with drying winds
continuing across most of the south-east and central areas of the state.
Moderate to fresh SE winds will continue along most of the east coast and direct
only isolated showers onto the southern and central coast. Fine conditions will
develop over most of the south-east inland and the southern and central
interior. Generally isolated showers and storms will occur over the remainder
of the state.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The ridge will persist along most of the east coast until at least Thursday.
A surface trough will move into the south-west of the state on Wednesday and
then become near stationary. So isolated showers will continue along much of the
east coast but will increase to at least scattered with some rain areas about
the North Tropical Coast. Some moderate to heavy falls will occur in this area.
Showers and storms, mostly isolated, will occur near the surface trough and this
activity will merge with seasonal shower and storms activity about the Gulf of
Carpentaria and over the far north of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Friday.
