MELBOURNE - Feb 22/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A broad trough of low pressure remains over the state's west, and with the assistance of a transient upper-level feature, is bringing unsettled weather to much of the inland. Stable conditions are expected to return to all but the northeastern districts where showers will continue during Thursday and Friday as a high moves from the Bight to the Tasman Sea, and continues to build a ridge into New South Wales. This high is forecast to be the dominant synoptic feature through the weekend, moving only very slowly to the east. A new trough is expected to develop over the far west later on the weekend, with unsettled conditions again developing ahead of it. A cold front and associated rain will begin to move across the state from the west early next week. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayFine and partly cloudy in the far southwest. Possible showers along the southern and central coast. Showers and thunderstorms for the remainder. Light to moderate east to southeast winds.Thursday 23 FebruaryIsolated showers in the northeast, tending scattered on the far north coast and adjacent ranges with the chance of thunderstorms. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. East to southeast winds, tending northeasterly along the southern coast.Friday 24 FebruaryShowers in the northeast, more frequent near the coast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. East to northeast winds.Saturday 25 FebruaryFine and partly cloudy in the southeast. Showers elsewhere, less likely over the western inland and more likely over the north and northeast. Possible afternoon thunderstorms over the northern inland. East to northeast winds.Sunday 26 FebruaryIsolated showers over central and eastern areas. Fine in the west.
