MELBOURNE - Feb 20/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system south of the Bight will move slowly southeastwards on Tuesday, directing a southeast to southerly airflow across Victoria. A weak trough will lie over northeast Victoria on Tuesday and Wednesday with the high maintaining a ridge across Tasmania. The high will reach the Tasman Sea on Thursday, and will strengthen on Friday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated showers in the east, scattered about the Gippsland coast and ranges with isolated showers extending into eastern parts of the central district during the afternoon. Isolated thunderstorms in the northeast during the afternoon. Mild near the coast but warmer inland with light to moderate southeast to southerly winds, freshening about the coast during the afternoon.Fire Danger - High in west.Wednesday 22 FebruaryLocal morning showers about the central coast. Fine elsewhere apart from isolated showers and thunderstorms over the northeast and also along the Gippsland ranges. Mild near the coast, but warm inland with light to moderate east to southeast winds, freshening along the coast during the afternoon.Thursday 23 FebruaryEarly fog in the south then fine and mostly sunny. Warm inland with light and variable winds. Milder along the coastal fringe with seabreezes developing during the afternoon.Friday 24 FebruaryEarly fog in the south then fine and mostly sunny.
