Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 16/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea will maintain a ridge along most of the east coast
for the next few days.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the northern tropics, with the
showers tending to rain periods about the far northeast of the state and some
moderate falls possible. Mainly fine about the remainder of the east coast,
except for some isolated showers over the central and parts of the southeast
coast. Some isolated showers and storms over the southwest, central west, and
southern interior.  Moderate to fresh SE winds along the east coast, and light
to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Saturday
An onshore flow should push some isolated showers onto the southeast and
central coast, with more widespread showers and isolated storms expected about
the Peninsula district and the northeast coast north of about Cardwell. The
showers should tend to rain at times north of about Cooktown with some moderate
falls possible. Isolated showers and storms are also expected about the southern
Gulf of Carpentaria, and are possible about the Channel Country and parts of the
southern interior. Fine elsewhere.
Forecast for Sunday
A weak surface trough should produce some isolated showers and storms over
the southern and southeast interior, however an upper level high should keep the
rest of the interior fine. Fine also about the southeast coast, and mainly fine
about the central coast except for some isolated showers. Scattered showers and
isolated storms are expected over the north of the state, spreading to rain
areas at times north of about Cairns.
Forecast for Monday
A new upper level trough should approach the southwest of the state, while
the surface trough should remain through the interior, allowing isolated showers
and thunderstorms to form over the southern interior.  Scattered late showers
are possible over the southeast coast district.  Fine over the remainder of the
interior.  Scattered showers and isolated storms are expected over the north of
the state and towards the Central Coast, spreading to rain areas at times north
of about Cairns.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The upper level trough should move across the southern districts during the
outlook period, producing showers and storms over the southern districts, with
the most active conditions expected over the southeast on Tuesday.  A new ridge
will build along the east coast from the south during the middle of the week,
increasing the shower activity along the southeast and central coast. Scattered
showers continuing over the far northeast of the state. Fine over most of the
interior.

Friday.
