Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 16/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge towards the northern New South Wales coast, while a trough of low pressure stretches from central Australia through western New South Wales and Victoria. This trough is expected to push eastwards today as it links with a cold front passing to the south, before stalling over central parts later on Saturday. The Tasman Sea high is expected to weaken and move away during Sunday, allowing a low to develop in its place. This low, in combination with a new high approaching from the west, is forecast to bring a southerly change across the state on Monday.
Forecast for the rest of FridayFine in the northeast apart from the chance of showers about the far north coast, mainly morning. Fine and mostly sunny in the far southwest. Showers and thunderstorms developing elsewhere, chiefly in a band extending from the northwest of the state to the southeast, and mostly during the afternoon. Northwest to northeasterly winds, turning southerly in the far south.Fire Danger -  Very High in the Southern Riverina.Saturday 18 FebruaryFine and mostly sunny in the southwest. The chance of early showers or thunderstorms in the northwest. Showers and thunderstorms developing over the remainder during the afternoon, mainly about the ranges, slopes and parts of the coast. Southeast to northeast winds becoming northwest to southwest over the inland.Sunday 19 FebruaryShowers and thunderstorms over the eastern half, possibly extending to the southwest. Fine and mostly sunny in the northwest. Northwest to northeast winds tending southwesterly in the southwest.Monday 20 FebruaryFine in the northwest. The chance of showers and thunderstorms elsewhere, more likely in the east. North to northwest winds ahead of a milder south to southwesterly change.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Friday.Product IDN10031
