web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea will maintain a ridge along most of the east coast
for the next few days. A weak upper level trough will move over the southern
districts during the next two days.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Mainly isolated showers and storms over the western districts and the central
and southern interior. Fine over many of the eastern districts, except for some
isolated, mainly light showers about the southeast coast and some scattered
showers and isolated storms about the Peninsula and northeast coast north of
about Mackay. The showers should tend to rain periods at times east of the
ranges between Cooktown and Ingham, with some moderate falls possible. Moderate
to fresh SE winds along the east coast, and light to moderate SE to NE winds
elsewhere.
Forecast for Friday
An upper level trough will move off the southeast coast during the morning,
allowing for fine conditions to occur over the state's interior. Mainly fine
along the southeast and central coast except for some isolated, mainly light
showers. More widespread showers and storms are likely about the Gulf Country,
Peninsula district and the northeast coast north of about Bowen. The showers
should tend to rain at times north of about Cairns with some moderate falls
possible.
Forecast for Saturday
An onshore flow should push some isolated showers onto the southeast and
central coast, with more widespread showers and isolated storms expected about
the Peninsula district and the northeast coast north of about Cardwell. The
showers should tend to rain at times north of about Cairns with some moderate
falls possible. Isolated showers and storms are also expected about the southern
Gulf of Carpentaria, and are possible about the inland parts of the southern
Queensland border area. Fine elsewhere.
Forecast for Sunday
A weak surface trough should produce some isolated showers and storms over
the southern and southeast interior, however an upper level high should keep the
rest of the interior fine. Fine also about the southeast and the central
coasts. Scattered showers and isolated storms are expected over the far
northeast and the Peninsula district, spreading to rain areas at times north of
about Cardwell.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
A new upper trough will move across the southern districts early in the new
week, producing showers and storms over the southeast from Monday. A new ridge
will build along the east from the south from Tuesday, increasing the shower
activity along the southeast and central coast. Scattered showers continuing
over the far northeast of the state. Fine over most of the interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Thursday.
