Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 15/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
The dominant synoptic features currently in the region are a slow-moving high pressure system centred over the Tasman Sea, and a trough of low pressure stretching from central Australia through western New South Wales towards Tasmania. The high will maintain a ridge to the northern New South Wales coast during the next couple of days, the stabilising effect of which should lead to fine conditions across much of the northeast. Meanwhile, southern and western parts of the state may see afternoon showers or thunderstorms as warm northerly winds feed into the trough near the western border. This trough is expected to push east during Friday and Saturday as it links with a cold front passing to the south, before stalling over central parts on the weekend. A more vigorous southerly change appears likely to move across the state at the start of next week.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayThe chance of showers about the far north coast and adjacent ranges. Isolated showers or thunderstorms in the west and southeast, mainly afternoon. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. East to southeast winds about the northern coast. Northwest to northeast winds elsewhere, tending southwesterly in the far southwest.Fire Danger - Very High in the southern Riverina.Friday 17 FebruaryFine and partly cloudy in the far west and in the northeast apart from clearing showers on the far north coast. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms elsewhere, tending scattered about the southeast inland.
