Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 15/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and
streams.

Weather Situation
A weak upper level trough will move across southern and central Queensland
during Thursday and Friday. A high over the Tasman Sea will maintain a ridge
along most of the east coast through the weekend.  A trough is located over the
Coral Sea and will persist into the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Fine over the west of the state. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over most
of the remaining inland tending to scattered about the southern and central
interior. Isolated showers along most of the east coast becoming scattered about
the north tropical coast. Some rain areas with showers and storms over northern
Cape York peninsula. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the east coast with light
to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Thursday
Isolated showers and storms over parts of the interior. Isolated showers
along much of the east coast becoming scattered and tending to rain at times
about the north tropical coast. Some moderate falls likely. Further rain,
showers and storms over northern Cape York Peninsula. Fine elsewhere. Moderate
to fresh SE winds along the east coast with light to moderate SE to NE winds
elsewhere
Forecast for Friday
The upper trough will move off the coast during the morning with fie
conditions then occurring across nearly all of the interior. Isolated showers
will continue along exposed parts of the east coast and again tend to rain at
times about the north tropical coast and Cape York Peninsula. Isolated showers
and storms will continue about the southern Gulf of Carpentaria.
Forecast for Saturday
Isolated showers will occur along exposed parts of the east coast becoming
scattered about the north tropical coast and Cape York Peninsula. Further rain
areas will occur on the Cape York Peninsula and about the north tropical coast.
Isolated showers and storms will occur about the southern Gulf of Carpentaria
and will possibly occur about the inland parts of the southern Queensland border
area. Fine conditions will occur elsewhere.
Forecast for Sunday
Isolated showers will occur along exposed parts of the east coast becoming
scattered about the north tropical coast and Cape York Peninsula. Isolated
showers and storms will occur about the southern Gulf of Carpentaria and will
again possibly occur about the inland parts of the southern Queensland border
area. Fine conditions will occur elsewhere.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
A new upper trough will move across south-eastern Australia during the first
half of the week. So areas of rain, showers and storms will spread across
southern and central areas of the state from the west from Monday onwards. This
activity will move offshore during Wednesday. A new ridge will build along the
east from the south during Tuesday. This ridge will be preceded by a surface
trough and wind change which will enhance the showers and storms in southern
coastal areas and the south-east inland on Tuesday and about the Capricornia and
Central Coast area and the adjacent inland on Wednesday.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Thursday.
