Weather Situation
A weak upper level trough is approaching far southwest Queensland, while a
surface trough extends from the Gulf Country through the central interior to
about Cunnamulla. A high in the Tasman Sea is building a ridge along the east
coast of Queensland. A trough over the central and northern Coral Sea is moving
slowly west.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over most of the eastern half of the state
and Gulf Country, tending scattered about the southern interior this afternoon.
Scattered showers along the tropical east coast. Mainly fine about the
southeast, except for some isolated showers about the coast and over the
southeast interior. Fine over the western interior. Moderate to fresh SE winds
along the east coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Thursday
The influence of the Coral Sea trough should lead to fresh onshore flow and
scattered showers and isolated storms about the northeast coast, with some
moderate falls possible about the wet tropics. Mainly isolated showers and
storms about the remainder of the east coast and most nearby inland areas,
tending more scattered in the far southeast. Fine over the southeast interior.
The weak surface trough over the central and southern interior should produce
some isolated showers and thunderstorms. Fine in the far west.
Forecast for Friday
The ridge along the east coast and trough over the Coral Sea will continue to
produce fresh SE winds, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms with some
moderate falls about the wet tropics and northern Cape York Peninsula. Isolated
to scattered showers along the remainder of the east coast and adjacent inland.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms about southern Cape York Peninsula and Gulf
Country. A developing upper level ridge should bring a return to fine conditions
over the inland.
Forecast for Saturday
Showers and storms spreading to rain areas about the northern Peninsula and
the northeast coast as the Coral Sea trough approaches from the east. Mainly
isolated showers along the remaining eastern coast. Fine over the remainder of
the state.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
A weak ridge should remain over the southeast coast during the weekend and
early into the new week, maintaining mainly fine conditions through the
interior, though some showers and storms are possible over the southeast on
Tuesday as an upper trough approaches. The continuing influence of the Coral Sea
trough should maintain rain areas, widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms
along the northeast coast and the nearby inland areas.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Wednesday.
