MELBOURNE - Feb 14/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak surface trough extends from the Gulf Country down to the southeast interior. A high in the Tasman Sea is building a ridge along the east coast. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Mainly fine about the southeast except for some isolated showers and storms, mainly about the ranges. Mainly isolated showers and storms over the remaining eastern districts and Cape York Peninsula, more widespread about the Herbert and Lower Burdekin region. Isolated showers and storms also over the central interior. Fine in the west. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the east coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere. Forecast for Wednesday The surface trough should drift into the central and southern interior, allowing mainly isolated showers and storms to occur over most the eastern half of the state, and also over the Gulf Country. A freshening onshore flow should produce more widespread showers and storms about the central and northeast coast. Mainly fine about the state's southeast, except for some isolated showers about the coast and over the southeast interior. Fine over the western interior. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the east coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere. Forecast for Thursday A fresh onshore flow should maintain scattered showers and isolated storms about the northeast coast. Mainly isolated showers and storms about the remainder of the east coast and most nearby inland areas. Fine over the southeast interior. A weak surface trough should produce some isolated showers and storms about the central and southern interior. Fine in the southwest of the state. Forecast for Friday Fine over most of the state except for some isolated showers and storms near a weak surface trough over the central and southern interior, and some mainly isolated showers and storms about most of the east coast. Scattered showers and isolated storms about the northeast coast and the Peninsula district in a fresh onshore wind flow. Forecast for Saturday Showers and storms spreading to rain areas about the northern Peninsula and the northeast coast as a tropical trough approaches from the east. Mainly isolated showers and storms over the remaining eastern districts. Fine over the remainder of the state. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday A weak ridge should remain over the southeast coast during the weekend and early into the new week, maintaining mainly fine conditions through the interior, though some showers and storms are possible over the southeast on Tuesday as an upper trough approaches. The continuing influence of the Coral Sea trough should maintain rain areas, widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms along the northeast coast and the nearby inland areas.
