MELBOURNE - Feb 14/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system just east of Tasmania will move eastwards and will be located over the central Tasman Sea on Wednesday and over New Zealand on Thursday. A low pressure trough will enter southwest Victoria late on Wednesday and will move slowly eastwards across the State on Thursday. The low pressure trough will linger near northeastern Victoria on Friday and Saturday. Another high pressure system will develop to the southwest of Tasmania on Friday before drifting well to the south of Tasmania on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayFine apart from isolated showers and thunderstorms over the eastern ranges. Light winds and seabreezes near the coast.Wednesday 15 FebruaryMostly fine. Isolated showers possible later in the southwest and over the northeast ranges during the afternoon. Early fogs in Gippsland. A warm to very warm day with moderate north to northeasterly winds shifting westerly in the the far west later.Fire Danger - Moderate to High reaching Very High in the west.Thursday 16 FebruaryIsolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the east. Generally warm to very warm with moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds ahead of a southwesterly change, reaching eastern districts at night.Friday 17 FebruaryScattered showers and thunderstorms over the eastern ranges. Isolated showers in most other districts but fine over the northwest. Warm to very warm in the north but mild in the south. Generally light to moderate south to southeasterly winds, fresh at times along the coast.Saturday 18 FebruaryIsolated showers in the east and near the central coast tending scattered over the eastern ranges. Isolated thunderstorms possible over the eastern ranges. Fine elsewhere.
