MELBOURNE - Feb 13/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A near stationary surface trough lies over the interior of the state, with moist SE to NE winds to its east and dry S'ly winds to its west. An upper level trough lies over the southeast interior. Forecast for the rest of Monday Mainly isolated showers and thunderstorms over the eastern districts, the Peninsula district and the Central Highlands and Coalfields, more widespread with some moderate to heavy local falls in thunderstorms about the southeast. Fine over the interior. Light to moderate SW to SE winds over the interior, light to moderate SE to NE over the eastern districts. Forecast for Tuesday The upper level trough will move offshore during the day, but enough instability should remain about the state's southeast to produce some isolated showers and possibly some isolated thunderstorms as well. Showers and isolated thunderstorms will also continue over the Peninsula district, while more isolated shower and thunderstorm activity will continue through the remaining eastern districts. Fine conditions will persist in the west. A high in the Tasman Sea should push a southerly change up the Queensland coast during the day, causing humidity levels to start easing about the southeast districts. Forecast for Wednesday The surface trough should begin to retreat westwards as surface pressures rise along the east coast with the development of a ridge. This will allow low level moist air to spread westwards into the interior, with isolated showers and thunderstorms developing east of about Burketown to Cunnamulla. Conditions should become mostly fine through the southeast due to the influence of the ridge with only isolated showers expected. A trough in the easterly flow over the northern Coral Sea will move westwards, and may increase shower and thunderstorm activity about the east coast north of about Sarina, with rain areas and storms likely over northern Cape York Peninsula. Forecast for Thursday The trough over the Coral Sea will move slowly westwards, enhancing the southeasterly flow and shower and thunderstorm activity along the tropical east and central coasts. Isolated showers are expected elsewhere along the east coast and adjacent inland. The inland trough will continue to drift slowly westwards to lie from about Mt Isa to Cunnamulla, with isolated showers and thunderstorms developing to its east during the afternoon and evening. Forecast for Friday A surface trough should remain over the state's interior, and the relatively humid air flow into it should produce mainly isolated showers and thunderstorms over most of the central and eastern districts. A tropical trough approaching from the east may produce areas of rain, showers and thunderstorms over the Peninsula and the northeast districts. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday A weak ridge is expected to build over the state's interior during the outlook period, resulting in mainly fine conditions through the west and the central districts. The continuing influence of the Coral Sea trough should maintain widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms along the tropical east coast. Mainly fine about the remaining eastern districts, except for some isolated coastal showers and the chance of some isolated showers about the southern border ranges on Monday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Tuesday. Weather & WarningsAustraliaNew South WalesVictoriaQueenslandWarnings SummaryForecastsBrisbane ForecastQld.
