MELBOURNE - Feb 12/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A trough of low pressure extends across eastern Victoria while a high pressure system south of South Australia extends a ridge south of Tasmania. A low pressure system deepening over the Tasman Sea will move slowly to the southeast with the ridge of high pressure expected to remain across Tasmania on Monday. The high will move east of Tasmania on Tuesday and be located in the central Tasman Sea on Wednesday and over New Zealand on Thursday. A low pressure trough will enter the southwest of the State late on Wednesday and move slowly eastwards across the State on Thursday. Forecast for the rest of SundayScattered showers in southern and mountain areas. Fine over the northern plains. Isolated thunderstorms in the east, mainly about the ranges. Light to moderate south to southeasterly winds.Monday 13 FebruaryIsolated showers in the south, tending more widespread over Gippsland and near the Otway ranges and contracting eastwards during the day. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms in the east. Fine in the northwest. A mild to warm and partly cloudy day with a light to moderate southeasterly wind, fresh at times along the coast.Fire Danger - Locally high.Tuesday 14 FebruaryIsolated showers in the east, contracting to the eastern ranges by the afternoon. Fine elsewhere. A mild to warm and mainly sunny day with light winds and moderate afternoon seabreezes near the coast.Wednesday 15 FebruaryIsolated showers developing in the southwest and over the northeast ranges. A warm to very warm day with moderate northeasterly winds shifting westerly in the the west later.Thursday 16 FebruaryScattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, mainly in the east.
