Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 9/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and
streams.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A surface trough extended a cross the eastern interior of the state. A weak
ridge extended along most of the east coast of Queensland. The monsoon trough
will continue to retreat and will move into Papua New Guinea during Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Showers and thunderstorms about the far northern and eastern tropics and over
the south-east inland. Isolated showers about the exposed coast south from
Fraser Island. Fine elsewhere over the state. Winds mostly light to moderate SW
to SE winds tending E to NE over the eastern interior.
Forecast for Saturday
The upper level trough will remain over the interior of the state and will
continue to generate showers and storms over most eastern districts. Fine
conditions will continue over the remainder of the state.
Forecast for Sunday
The upper level trough will remain anchored over the interior of the state.
So further showers and storms will occur over most eastern districts of
Queensland. Fine conditions will continue elsewhere over the state.
Forecast for Monday
The upper level trough will move eastwards into eastern Queensland. So
showers and storms will occur over most eastern districts of Queensland and tend
to scattered about the south-east. Over the remainder of the state, fine weather
will continue.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The upper trough will move slowly eastwards and will be seawards of the coast
by late Tuesday. So during Tuesday, conditions will remain weakly unstable over
most eastern districts of the state. Consequently, isolated showers and/or storm
will continue in most eastern districts, especially inland. The ridge will
strengthen along the east coast from Tuesday onwards so moisture will spread
inland during Wednesday and Thursday with isolated showers and storms
contracting westwards with this moisture. Along the east coast, SE winds will
freshen and direct showers into most east coast districts. A trough in the low
levels will move westwards across the Coral Sea during the forecast period and
will increase and enhance showers about the central and southern east tropical
coast from late Tuesday onwards.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Friday.
