MELBOURNE - Feb 9/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A surface trough extended a cross the eastern interior of the state. A weak ridge extended along most of the east coast of Queensland. The monsoon trough will continue to retreat and will move into Papua New Guinea during Saturday. Forecast for the rest of Friday Showers and thunderstorms about the far northern and eastern tropics and over the south-east inland. Isolated showers about the exposed coast south from Fraser Island. Fine elsewhere over the state. Winds mostly light to moderate SW to SE winds tending E to NE over the eastern interior. Forecast for Saturday The upper level trough will remain over the interior of the state and will continue to generate showers and storms over most eastern districts. Fine conditions will continue over the remainder of the state. Forecast for Sunday The upper level trough will remain anchored over the interior of the state. So further showers and storms will occur over most eastern districts of Queensland. Fine conditions will continue elsewhere over the state. Forecast for Monday The upper level trough will move eastwards into eastern Queensland. So showers and storms will occur over most eastern districts of Queensland and tend to scattered about the south-east. Over the remainder of the state, fine weather will continue. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday The upper trough will move slowly eastwards and will be seawards of the coast by late Tuesday. So during Tuesday, conditions will remain weakly unstable over most eastern districts of the state. Consequently, isolated showers and/or storm will continue in most eastern districts, especially inland. The ridge will strengthen along the east coast from Tuesday onwards so moisture will spread inland during Wednesday and Thursday with isolated showers and storms contracting westwards with this moisture. Along the east coast, SE winds will freshen and direct showers into most east coast districts. A trough in the low levels will move westwards across the Coral Sea during the forecast period and will increase and enhance showers about the central and southern east tropical coast from late Tuesday onwards.
