MELBOURNE - Feb 9/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough extends from central New South Wales southwards into Victoria and is slow moving. An upper level trough will move over the State today then a low pressure system will develop to the east of Victoria on Saturday. On Sunday the low will drift eastwards and a high pressure system will move towards Tasmania on Monday. Forecast for the rest of FridayGenerally fine over the far northwest. Scattered showers and thunderstorms developing elsewhere, mainly during the afternoon. Heavy falls possible with storms. A mild day with moderate east to southeast winds, fresh to strong near the coast but lighter over the northeast.Fire Danger - Moderate to HighSaturday 11 FebruaryRain in East Gippsland. Showers in remaining southern and mountain areas with isolated showers over the northern plains. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms over central and eastern districts. A mild day with moderate to fresh southeasterly winds, fresh to strong near the coast but lighter over the northeast.Sunday 12 FebruaryWidespread showers in East Gippsland. Scattered showers in remaining southern and mountain areas. Mostly fine over the northern plains with just the chance of isolated showers near the ranges. Isolated thunderstorms over the far northeast. A mild day with moderate to fresh southeasterly winds.Monday 13 FebruaryScattered showers mainly in southern areas. Fine over the northwest.
