Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 8/12 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A strong wind warning is current for waters from Double
Island Point to Point Danger.
Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A surface trough extended a cross the eastern interior of the state. A weak
ridge extended along most of the east coast of Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Mostly isolated showers and/or thunderstorms over eastern coastal districts
north of about Gladstone. Isolated showers over remaining eastern coastal
districts and the eastern Darling Downs. Fine elsewhere over the state with
mostly light to moderate SW to SE winds. Generally light to moderate W to NW
winds over Cape York peninsula with light to moderate SE winds along the
remaining east coast tending fresh to strong south from Fraser Island.
Forecast for Friday
A new upper level trough will move into western Queensland and will again
begin to destabilize conditions over southern areas of the state. So showers
and/or storms will continue over far eastern and northern tropical parts and
over the south-east inland of the state. Isolated showers will occur about the
exposed coast south from Fraser Island. Fine elsewhere over the state. Winds
will decrease about the far southern coast.
Forecast for Saturday
The upper level trough will remain over the interior of the state and will
continue to generate showers and storms over most eastern districts. Fine
conditions will continue over the remainder of the state.
Forecast for Sunday
The upper level trough will remain anchored over the interior of the state.
So further showers and storms will occur over most eastern districts of
Queensland. Fine conditions will continue elsewhere over the state.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The upper trough will amplify on Monday and then move slowly eastwards during
the next few days. So showers and storms will occur over eastern districts of
the state on Monday including parts of the southern and central interior. This
activity will then contract eastwards during Tuesday and Wednesday and gradually
again become confined to east coastal districts and Cape York Peninsula.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Thursday.
